Åkeshov Swimming pool in Stockholm.

The Swedish government introduced a major program of energy saving measures in 2005. Solar energy was inclu-ded in a special program which ran for 3 years. Applicants for the program came from non-profit government and municipal institutions. These institutions could apply for grants of up to 70% although only up to a maximum of 5 mil-lion Swedish Kroner. Åkeshov swimming and athletic facilities are traditionally used to train Sweden’s best gym-nasts, and they wanted to be a part of developing and promoting the new energy technology of solar power. The project is divided into two parts: A highly visible installation at the gymnastic facility and one that is less visible at the swimming facility. The visible plant is put up as a kind of an awning in Gaia Solar’s proprietary Kondor mounting sy-stem. There are 8 sails with a total of 240 panels. The smaller plant on the roof of the swimming hall follows the na-tural slope of the roof towards the South. This part is also mounted with the Kondor system. The total solution has one of the best price/performance ratios and simultaneously becomes a beautiful landmark for the swimming pool.
