Houten Firestation in Holland.
Remu is one of Holland’s largest energy companies with a clear profile in alternative energy. In connection with the company sale of “green certificates”, with which all electrical companies in Holland have requirements to comply, the Houten Fire station was offered a solar panel plant. The Fire Station was just about to erect a new façade and had wanted an aesthetic and beautiful solution for the façade cladding. In consultation with Remu, it was agreed that solar panels could fulfil both requirements. Gaia Solar was chosen to provide a solution where the solar panels could function as a decoration as well as an external climate screen. The plant comprises completely transparent glass/glass panels, where the solar cell panels comprise the roof of the fire station. Houten fire station is an archi-tectonically eye catching project with glass/ glass solar cell panels. This is a truly building-integrated solution, where solar cell panels replace other materials. This is one of the best examples of how sustainable architecture can be utilised optimally in a modern building.
