Kollektivhuset at Østerbro.

Kollektivhuset in Østerbro is a good example of balconies with solar panels. The assignment was awarded as part of the refurbishment of the building’s facade, where the objective was to demonstrate how a traditional balcony re-novation could be combined with the integration of solar panels. Here the solar panels are a part of a double glass facade. Heat is channelled away from the apartments in the space between the glass panels, through the facade space. In the winter, the inhabitants can open the warm backs of the solar panels. Thus, the season is extended up to a month at either end of the season. 224 solar panels were installed in each balcony of the façade with a solar panel for each apartment. The solar panels are semi-transparent with mono-crystalline solar cells. Two types of solar panels are installed, one with 36 solar cells and one with 28 solar cells. In this way the amount of solar cells can be varied individually from apartment to apartment and still retain an architectonic unity in the facade. The propo-sed solution also makes it possible to use the free energy from the solar panels to preheat the ventilated air. This is a project that we have reaped a lot of recognition for in terms of sustainability and innovation.
