Valby School (Ovnhallen) in Copenhagen.
“Sol i Valby” (Sun in Valby), is a project which has as its aim that Valby district will in the course of the next 25 ye-ars become an Energy Island. The goal is that 15% of all electrical consumption to be covered by solar energy. The project is financed by the EU Energy Agency, power companies PSO as well as developers and end users. Part of the preliminary work lies in determining the prevalent roof types and finding the best mounting systems for these. Ovnhallen and Maskinhuset are thus model projects. We have worked towards ensuring that the mounting system is as invisible as possible. In this way, the panels appear to float. Similarly, the solar panel type and the panel backing material were selected to match the colour of the roof. In this case it is roofing felt, which was why it was important to choose dark cells on a dark background. Ovnhallen has a typical factory roof with a low slope of 15°, whereas Maskinhuset has a typical administrations building roof slope of about 45°. Ovnhallen has a series of dummy fields to prevent shadow effects and a series of special panels were produced which have holes for ROI caps etc. The re-sult is a motorway of solar cell panels given an appearance of weightlessness by our “Colibri” mounting system. Together with the dark background, the plant blends in very naturally with the roofing felt on Valby School. To provi-de the finishing touch, we produced special panels to fit around the vents.
